Happy Federal Treasurer Caricature day everyone! Its been a good year, there were at least five different ones in the herald, including the front page with the confusing carnival spinning wheel thing. Stacks more in the Financial Review too. Every year John Howard's bottom lip gets bigger and bigger - after 12 years of growth it looks like he could ( Read more... )

Just listened to the hack mp3 (it's not a bloody Podcast!! ;)

It was a fairly good show. I found the last "denial" bit was fairly bad (the guy was being very sarky with his comment about Co2, and completely missed the point..) but it's good to see they're dealing with it as an issue and not a forgone conclusion..

I didn't pay much attention to that bit - the debate about the issue itself interests me more than why people choose to deny the evidence :P. Ronin does get a little snarky when people don't instantly agree with him though.

What did you think about that Lomborg guy, and his view that fixing climate change is too expensive right now. I think he might have totally nailed it.

Yeah, in general I very much agree with the point lomborg was trying to make, but I don't think he put it across very well ( ... )

I think its hard to make a point like that in less than three minutes, especially since the questions asked didn't allow much breathing room. Ronin is very one sided, and he admitted so in another interview I listened to last week. I'll try and find that one for you when I get home.

We do live in the capitalist world, and so if you do start subsidising things like solar cells you are creating a market for them. Which means more people start building and selling them, which means competition. Which, in a round about kind of way, eventually leads to research.

You can't always just "fund research" into something - Its not like Civilization. All that really means is that a few scientests will have bigger research grants, and a few more expensive buildings to play in. Scientists get persuaded away from less lucritive studies. Its not a bad idea to put money into research, but I dont think its the magic answer.
