How does one support her relationship while doing something that the other person feels negatively about?  How does one support herself with positive feelings, while remaining concerned and supportive of her partner in such a situation?

1) What might you want if the situation were reversed? How would you support your partner if you weren't the "cause" of distress?
2) Try not to judge yourself for taking care of what you want/need. Remind yourself that you are not responsible for your partner's feelings or happiness. It's not your job to fix it for them, but you can support their process of fixing it for themselves.
