the U.S. can have nukes pointing at every country, every city, every village in this world and threaten them to compromise but other countries can't defend themselves with the same weapon. It is because we know we have been doing wrong and still are, we fear the same gun we used to point at others. I don't like the idea of nukes hitting Seattle, or ( Read more... )

sorry, calling you by your futurama name is probably getting annoying. I just gotta say i disagree a bit with what you said. First off is nuclear weapons are all over, not just the united states has them. Russia has them, England has them, france has them despite their heritage of getting their butts kicked in armed conflict, and possibly north korea has them (to name a few). Simply destroying nuclear weapons is no longer an option, since the destruction would have to be completely mutual, and there would be no way of assuring that any one nation wasnt hiding warheads. Any nation with any warheads at this point would basically rule the world because they would have no good opposition. This is why the concept of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) was born. Originally in the cold war, it was designed so that we wouldnt fire unless fired upon, and the russians wouldnt fire unless fired upon, because both sides knew if they started a nuclear war, there would be no winners. Thx my german friend! :) hehe..

I think my first point wasn't clear. It's about power and recognition. When you have nukes to dispose of, you can actually threaten other countries or make the compromise and smaller countries want this recognition and power because they've been stepped on for so long. I'm sure in an open warfare most of the world can't beat the U.S. and they're not stupid enough to do so.

I understand what you mean. that no one is stupid enough to start a nuclear war because it's a no-win situation.. In that case why sweat over other countries building nukes or other weapons of mass destruction? Why do we need to disarm Saddam? etc.?
