Things I wonder when walking around NYC

Before they invented bobby pins, what did Jewish men use to keep their yarmulkes from falling off?

(And I just checked, just so I didn't accidentally offend anyone, but I totally spelled "yarmulke" right on the first try!)

Traditional yarmulke are actually of much heavier cloth and a larger, more rounded design than those commonly worn today. I presume such a yarmulke would be less likely to fall off, though I cannot be sure.

Also, I'm entertained how "yarmulke" is in my computer's spellcheck dictionary.

They wore real hats! They kept their heads covered! They did not cop out like these kids today!
