Kubrick's work goes down painfully because it is made of feces. You're not supposed to eat feces.
Two examples: read The Shining, and read A Clockwork Orange. Pay close attention to the endings. Now, go watch Kubrick's interpretations of the books. While the movies are visually stunning, I'm haunted by the way he misses the point of the stories, and reverses the endings. I suspect that Kubrick is (was) without morality.
He's not the only director guilty of this. Read Fight Club, then watch how Fincher totally missed the point. The movie is full of eye candy, and it is fun. However, he missed the moral of the story. The ending of the movie is wrong.
You broke the fourth wall, and it was self-indulgent. Do your work. Avoiding your work will cause you to stray from the path of serenity.
It's entertainment. We're not being bombed and we don't need to go milk the cow out back. When all of the basic needs are met, what is there left to do? Well, modern man certainly won't just sit around. Art(of all kinds) comes in to save the day.
Schoolwork is like zombies trying to suck your brains out. Unfortunately, if you take a chainsaw to your schoolwork, you will not only inflict terrible pain on your desk but probably fail the class anyways. Also, ALL of Stanley Kubrick's movies are great if you mute them and come up with your own subtitles.
