in summary:
looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
i actually didn't expect to write at all...this is my first year writing fic in a while. i used to write for other fandoms but when i first started writing kpop i was ridiculed behind my back and told to leave the fandom and i deleted that ao3 account entirely. but then one of my friends convinced me to write and LOOK AT THE MONSTER SHE CREATED i definitely didn't expect to write this much
what pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in january?
i definitely didn't expect to write so much vixx. i had so many homin ideas and such that i never expected to jump ship so drastically.
what's your own favourite story of the year?
oh, uhm......."holding onto you"/"dead hearts are everywhere" ?? probably?? i put a lot of effort into that universe.
did you take any writing risks this year?
i think the biggest risk i took would probably be my decision to publicly post my fics. i was so scared.
do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
i have a lot of "bigger" ideas in my head right now and i want to be able to find the words to write them because some of them have been up there SINCE JUNE.
from the past year of my writing, what was...:
my best story of this year:
"paint it black", probably. it's short, but that was a huge landmark of my improvement over the months
my most popular story of this year:
this is really hard to judge?? but i think "anagapesis"...which makes me happy tbh because i wrote that one for a friend's birthday and i got a lot of love from other people for it. i even made a new friend from it? ? idk it was cool ;~;
the story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
hmm..."holding onto you"/"dead hearts are everywhere" maybe? idk if it's "under-appreciated" but i like it a lot and i spent a month writing that universe so i have a bit of pride there.
the most fun story to write:
"Shoot Me Up, Baby" ...the dialogue was really fun i specifically remember that
story with the single sexiest moment:
[tay voice] xcuse me does graham even talk about nsfw?
the most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
in terms of angst..."the monsters got me" probably.
the story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
"paint it black". like i said before, it marked a big change in my writing ability, but also when i write i usually dabble a lot with extenuating circumstances, like "how far can i take this before they break", so having something that was a lot less...desperate and more relaxed was something different and cool, i guess.
the hardest story to write:
"dead hearts are everywhere" .. i'm really proud of it and i keep bringing it up but i ran into so many blocks while working on it and my ideas kept shifting so it was honestly very difficult to stay true to it but i somehow managed ? ? ? but yeah :s pls love it
the biggest disappointment:
"if you love me, don't let go" - there was something odd about the way i wrote it. the characterization was really off, even if i liked the original idea. hence why it got deleted. ((also the fact that i never wrote the dystopian au yet))
the biggest surprise:
"white noise" or "anagapesis"
the most unintentionally driving story:
"drive" ? ? ? ? idk
favourite opening lines:
"There was a full mug of tea sitting on the wooden nightstand. It had been hot a while ago, steam wisping out of it and dissipating into the air of the unlit room, but had since gone cold, not a sip taken from it." -- "paint it black"
"His parents say they're proud. The fans and media are head over heels. They call him cute, they call him silly, and sometimes they say he's just a little shit. Funny, if they could see him now, the way he truly is, hunched over the table with his finger to one nostril, inhaling sharply through a dollar bill" -- "What A Shame"
"The cold air bit at his fingertips, causing a numbness that reflected what he felt on the inside. He had originally gone out to seek refuge from his thoughts, but what he found instead was much darker." -- "this is the beat that makes your mother cry"
favourite closing lines:
"“Hakyeon,” he breathed when they parted for air, and Jaehwan gave him a confused look. “My name is Hakyeon.”" -- "Shoot Me Up, Baby"
"It was Jaehwan who taught Hakyeon to see the day, to appreciate the sunset. He brought the colour to his monotonous, monochrome existence - a quality Hakyeon feared would disappear if he were to let go." -- "paint it black"
"He pulled out his phone as he unlocked the door and walked inside, scrolling through his pictures before finding one he had taken of a sunset several months back and setting it as his phone’s new lockscreen." -- "Anagapesis"
"But the door closed with such a finality that Wonsik felt it in his bones." -- "dead hearts are everywhere"
5 favourite lines from anywhere:
"Everything was black. The night sky, the mug of cold tea, the leaves that had made the tea themselves. The blanket he was using the fend off the late autumn chill, the polish on his nails, his shirt. His thoughts were black, too." -- "paint it black"
"He whined, his breath coming in short gasps, “God, please,” but if his other attempts had been useless, this was even more so. As machines advanced, people had used them to kill their gods, and no figment of the mind was going be of help to Hongbin now." -- "(it ought to be love) but this isn't lovely"
"Hakyeon took in a deep breath. “I can’t believe I’m blowing the biggest score of my life because you gave me puppy dog eyes."" -- "Shoot Me Up, Baby"
"He sighed, as if doing so would remove the weight from his shoulders, before bringing the soft fabric of the shirt to his face, inhaling, but there was nothing familiar about it other than how it felt against his skin. It didn’t smell like Hongbin anymore." -- "Anagapesis"
"He could run, he could put a line of salt at the door, but he would have to leave eventually, and they would be waiting." -- "Hellhound on my Trail"
fic writing goals for 2016
improve more ;~; but also to write the ideas that are driving me crazy
