now for the garden finds -I always like surprises and the past week has been one of those treasured times. I found seeds that had sprouted, cuttings that had taken root and grown in seclusion, and a boatload of little berries.
first there was my new poppy - we got the seeds from a couple that runs a Bed and Breakfast in Friday Harbor and I was wondering if they would ever grow (I planted the first seeds last year). Now I have had my first bloom and there is a second one growing next to it. Sadly, the first bloom lasted only a few days, but I got a pic or two.
then there was my strawberry patch, which is bursting with berries, some trying to turn red ,and a couple that turned enough for us to munch. So sweet and juicy. Can't wait to taste the rest.:)
here's a handful
my largest bell pepper fell (or was critter-knocked)off the plant ,so I had to bring it in.Here is a pic of it on our kitchen island. I have to taste it now -won't be growing any larger:(
and then , while clearing out some weeds in an area where I initial toss clippings from the front yard, on their way to the back, I found a surprise growth.
They are Autumn Joy sedums, growing from cuttings that rooted after being tossed there. I moved the bulk of the clippings (would have been last fall) but I guess enough bits remained to take root. I have had Dusty Miller and Lambs Ear cuttings root by themselves, and AJ's are prolific growers, but I was surprised - too bad the weeds tend to spring up by themselves also.
Just saw a couple clematis flowers blooming outside -more pics to take :)
