*GASPNESS* Terry Goodkind is NOT a fantasy author, he writes deep philosophical works that happen to use fantasy as a medium to get their message across.
... Yeah, apparently Terry Goodkind is kind of a douchey asshole. His "The Sword of Truth" series (which Legend of the Seeker is loosely, *loosely* based off of) us good though... well two-thirds of it is good anyway. The middle third is excessively preachy and boring.
That reminds me of finally seeing Smallville after reading so much fic. It was surprising! But only slightly less slashy than fanfic had led me to believe. Oh--and Clark was oddly not quite as smart in canon than he was in fanon.

That's kinda the basics I would expect from any fantasy author! I actually don't know if I've read anything by him or not.
