When you are invited into a persons home, does that mean that permission can be assumed to go through their belongings, their cupboards, their medicine cabinets ( Read more... )

Holy fuck, what he did was wrong.

If anything, it shows that this William guy is a control freak.

You may wanna set up a guest account on laptop which lacks admin privs. That way whenever you're not on it you can hit 'switch user' button and not have someone rifle through your stuff. Oh and put all the stuff you want private in 'My Documents' folder if you go that route as it should encrypt everything there.

Everything you mentioned smacks of a major invasion of privacy.

That's the first time I've let anyone touch the thing, and it was only for about 2.5 minutes while I went & got a drink. Setting up a guest acct would be a PITA, and in this case wouldn't have worked well, as we were all talking about Ebay searches and we were using my laptop to demonstrate.

I'm pretty angry about it still.

1. Good to see that you are posting again.

2. I often Google people I've just recently met, but only if they are interesting and even then I am looking for things like "Girl Acquitted In Boyfriend's Slaying" or "Man Shoots Friend In The Face Over Everquest Argument". You know, just to make sure.

Unfortunately, many people often forget that the web is public domain, and don't bother to make photo albums or blogs private. Not saying that you didn't, since you said that he was "hacking" into the album.

Hacking into it is wrong. Going through your ebay account just to find out more about you, wrong. (It wouldn't be wrong if you two were in a relationship and he suspected you of selling his limited edition Tickle Me Elmo Magic The Gathering Cards).

Going through the files on your computer? Kill the Summbitch.

1. Thank you, I was getting lonely. I realized that while I care what Andy thinks about me, he doesn't care about me at all, so even if his advice about having my life as a page to read in public is practical (he maintains that it invites trouble to do so, and I deserve what I get then), that I need the catharsis and this ephemeral form of self-validity ( ... )

Bah....

He has no right and no reason to go through any of your stuff. Kick him in the balls and shove him out the door. :)

Totally 100% in the wrong. The first time a certain person came to my house she got up before me, got on my computer and then started going through all my files.

After we moved in together she would routinely go through my computer to make sure I didn't do anything she disapproved of. Even after we had broken up she put spyware on my computer and monitored my email and traffic to see whether or not I was doing anything she disapproved of. Her justification of it was that I shouldn't be doing things she didn't like.

I guess it's up to you if you want that in your life.

On another note, when are you visiting Dallas?
