So it turns out that Christmas isn't the only holiday that I craft for. I made bunnies for all the kids' baskets last Easter and now I am knitting Halloween costumes

Thanks Hun. I want to run over there on Friday afternoon and make sure it fits. I could make the larger size if I have to but I am hoping I don't have to.
That is a very cute hat. I hope you will also post the acorn hat. Your two little nieces should be very happy with their new hats and will be able to wear them even after Halloween.

I think Emma is old enough to be excited. I called over there today and when I told her that I had made the first part of her Halloween costume she kinda squealed "You MADE it for ME!!!" But I think she will be VERY excited when she finds out that I intend for her to help make the rest of it. (I am planning on letting her pick out what kind of eyes, nose and mouth her Jack O Lantern gets and after I cut them out of the felt, I will let her help glue them on the shirt). Kids her age get a kick out of being able to say they made something.
Ellie is a little young. I am hoping she is tolerate of wearing the hat since she is really little and babies like to take off hats whenever possible
I've seen a couple of baby hat patterns on Ravelry.com where there is a section of the hat under the chin - like an attached cowl so that it is harder for the baby to remove the hat. Just an idea.
The acorn hat has that option but I am not going to go that way with it. From my experience with kids (and with Ellie) things that tie under their chin pisses them off and then you have a crying child trick or treating. If she can pull the hat off when she wants, she also has the option of pulling it back on (something she likes doing) and either way, I would rather she not wear the hat and have a good time trick or treating than be dressed up and miserable.
