I know I have a tendency to go a little overboard with the Christmas crafting and that this can result in some serious stress and anxiety, I have to say that finishing my gifts for friends and family is NOT the hardest part of the holiday prep. Awe...So sorry.
If I were you, I would get him coal. I mean, it is practical, and still a gift for the "naughty ones." Hehe. Then don't give him the hat, until New Years. Tell him, you were so angry...you frogged it. Lead him astray.
Just what I would do.

I am not angrey at him. He didn't do anything wrong. He isn't the one wanting a surprise. I want to surprise him. He loved the hat and was properly contrite that he accidently spoiled the surprise. It's just that I was really close to pulling off the stealth knitting and I cracked before I could pull it off.
