And I in my Petticoats

And I in my petticoats

And ignoble coats

Of gold and brass and tangerine

Harlequin dancer bells in my hair

Rings around my fingers

Tend to my summer garden

Of frailest snow drops and baby’s breath

To sturdy sunflowers

I look blindly to the sun

Shield my watering eyes

That burn with autumn smoke
