the tarot suite: (i) the juggler
Victoria-centric, faint Minho/Victoria, Krystal
i joined the circus when i was 6, she likes to tell people.

A/N: the first in a series of f(x)/SHINee stories inspired by each of the major arcanum of the tarot.

(I) the juggler

the juggler is the dealer who opens the game, but is he just
an illusionist playing with us or does he possess wisdom and merits?
infinitely human, he represents the reality and duality of the
coexistence of spirit and matter- for he is himself a paradox,
conjuror and illusionist. he represents ambivalence, the two-sided
face of every symbol.

his place in the deck invites us into the imaginary world which
he builds with a touch of his hands and a word of his voice. he is
the point of departure and all that it implies, carrying all the
two-edged weapons given to the created being to accomplish
his or her destiny. *

I joined the circus when I was six, she likes to tell people.

Really?

Of course, that's where she learned to be so flexible. It started when they came to her town, not for a performance (no one who lived there had either the money or desire to see that kind of show), into her parents' small noodle shop. From behind the kitchen door, she had watched the strongman shovel down huge bowls of food-pots almost- and the sword swallower watching him while occasionally taking a puff on his cigarette or a swig of cold beer, and the acrobats, the acrobats (wondrous creatures to a small child, really, they who so casually laid a leg straight up against the wall: backs so ramrod straight toes pointed neatly and fingers arcing beautifully through the air as they chattered).

When they found her asleep in the luggage caravan, they were already a good three days from her home and due to the next city in one. She begged to join the tumblers- look, I can dance too- and she showed them the traditional dances she learnt by watching the jie-jie in the town square. They were at a loss for what to do with a child among their midst; no one has time for anything unrelated to the show while on tour.

So in the meantime, they put her with the jugglers. Work hard and do what they tell you, mei-mei. Then, we'll see.

And so while she waited, she learned. Like this, she says, lazily flipping her water bottle around and behind her back. Nothing to it, looks normal- but then there is another bottle and then another one, dancing around her like planets drawn around the sun.

"You're a dirty liar, Vic-unni." Soojung says.

The new trainees deflate and compress slightly, disappointed murmurs floating in the air. Is it true? It was just a story? That was fake, Minho-oppa?

You nod.

They drift away quietly, dull meteors falling out of orbit. Victoria continues to turn the water bottle between her hands. In, out. Up, down. Around and back.

"You never joined the circus," You say the words slow, let them out and give them time to sink in those wide-set eyes.

"No," She says, just as slow and a little sadder. "But sometimes, I think I should have."

jie-jie = older sister
mei-mei = younger sister

So, what did you guys think? Yes, no? Should I continue with this series, did you like it, etc. They won't all be in this style, but I thought this suited the storyline well. If you'd like, I can put up notes and explanations on a later post explaining my interpretations of the cards and how they figure into the story...well, let me know, whatever you guys are thinking. toodles!

Oh and also. The definitions of the tarot cards and their meaning are drawn from the Penguin Dictionary of symbols- I really don't have any experience with Tarot otherwise. I don't mean to offend anybody, just taking what I come across as inspiration. And the next card is the female pope. not what you're thinking, probably. We'll see. Chronological order is challenging, but I think it'll be good.
