Father Figure

Sometimes, Claire likes to stop and watch Charlie with Aaron. It seems so natural, the way he holds the baby, careful of his head, slung in close to his chest. He sings to Aaron a lot, and then Aaron makes these gurgly-laughy sounds he seems to save only for Charlie. Other times, Charlie hums, and whether it's the vibrations deep in his chest or the melodic tone of his lullaby that does it Claire can't really say, but Aaron seems to sleep best that way.

She wonders on occasion if her father ever did that. Held her, sang to her, and if it came on instinct, or if he was just making it up as he went. On even rarer occasions she wonders about Thomas. If things had been different, if they had never argued, and he had never left, would he be the one holding Aaron right then? Oddly enough, the answer doesn't seem as important as the question.

Charlie seems to glow when he's with Aaron, a sort of halo she wants to call "fatherhood." And it makes Claire think that maybe the crash really is the best thing that could've happened to the three of them. Aaron needed a father, Charlie needed a reason, and she needed a Charlie.

what the fuck? aka this is my lost tag, i write heterosexual things?, fic, charlie/claire, what is this canon nonsense?, for the lostsquee luau 2009, sometimes i do good
