Oh, my! I wish my birth was as exciting and politically conscious :-D
I just have the distinction of having really broad shoulders (although I'm inclined to blame my mother's narrow pelvis), such that the doctor had to break my left shoulder for me to come out safely. Nice.
Thank you, although it was nice of her to stay with me as well. Saved me from rattling around alone in my apartment, getting all stressed out about the flight :-)
As a German-born citizen, I must say, "good-show" for offering up the time to hang with the German girl. Too often we Americans think only of ourselves and not of those around us. It was a nice, compassionate offer of sincerity to help out someone who really didn't have a place. Yes, the airline would have provided a hotel but I've stayed in those types of hotels provided by the airlines before. She would have been lucky if the gunshots, blood-curdling screams, and/or the cockroaches would have allowed her a nice evening.
I find it funny that the other girls wanted to take the German girl out and party. I'm sure it would have been like one of those novelty things that the group would have shown off like she was some kind of latest fashion accessory. *rolls eyes*
Erm, they didn't actually want to take her out--which is probably why she didn't go, besides the fact that she was pretty bummed out. It was more like, "Oh, you can stay with us. I'm going out with the chicas. You can come too, if you want." Since what she really wanted was some rest/quiet, they would have just left her alone in their apartment. Not nice, and not very smart either.
As an outsider, I think this "Americans think only for themselves thing" isn't all that true, and it's particularly untrue in the Northeast with a couple of gross exceptions (being DC and NY) ...
I don't necessarily agree that American's are inherently more selfish than people from any other culture. We're a diverse bunch, and among them, I'm sure, are some really bad apples. I don't think they should speak for Americans as a whole

Encounter. Or The Encounter--I forget.

The ambulance carrying my mother (and soon to be me) broke up a Nixon rally in downtown Los Angeles enroute to the hospital
My mother credits me for him not being elected the first time... (this was 1962)
