I almost feel as though I should apologize for such lengthy personal posts, but I didn't feel (at my age) I could answer Mrdreamjeans' queries succinctly ( Read more... )

Thank you.. I appreciate these glimpses into your life.

They turned my old Junior High School into condos, too.

Hard to imagine a room the size of a classroom being big enough to house a family - they must have gutted the insides and started over?

Mike, never apologize for sharing your stories! I love hearing your tales. Thanks for this background.

It's always wonderful to get to know a good friend even better!

HUGS!

I'd remember to ask first and not to lift you off the floor (as though I could, LOL), but I'd really like to give you a lingering hug and an appreciative kiss. Our journeys of self-acceptance are so different yet somehow related. I hardly ever hear from Dennis anymore (he is now in St. Louis), but I am so glad he steered me in the direction of getting to know you.

Funny ... Is Dennis the guy from Atlanta, the minister? I've never had much contact with him. It's great that he introduced us and that we became friends.

Yes, you're right. Dennis passed through and spent the night with us about about two years ago on his way to his 50th class reunion in San Angelo. He is also a fellow Baylor grad.

Engrossing account. Sparked some random thoughts: What on earth is "transformational grammar"? ... an intriguing term ( ... )

So much to answer, and I love sharing with you.

Transformation grammar simply put is a way of looking at grammar rather like a mathematical formula. This + That + More = a Natural Sounding, Grammatically Correct Sentence Every Time. A linguist named Noam Chomsky was a big promoter of its use.

I should make another more detailed post sometime about my marriage vs. my uncertain orientation. I do believe in the Kinsey scale, but I don't consider myself bisexual. I wanted very much to be normal. I definitely wanted to be a parent. I possibly thought that I was capable of a good marriage. In fact, it was not I, who called it quits. I wish you could hear my brief talk for the Fort Worth city employees on what "coming out" is. I do not regret that I was married or that I have such a wonderful family. I am sorry that the marriage ultimately failed, but I think it was a mutual failure. It did set me free to discover my fuller self ultimately.

That approach to grammar sounds like a good way to demystify its convolutions ... at least for English speakers (I suspect the rest of the world has to take it on faith *grin*). I'm reminded of the glaring gaps in my ongoing education...in this case, the topic of Noam Chomsky. I should become more familiar with his work as, over the years, I've heard him recommended by people a lot brighter than I. he seems to be a sort of 'popular genius' - someone along the lines of Steven Jay Gould ( ... )
