Chapter 4 : Break
“This is me, Ana. All of me...and I'm all yours. What do I have to do to make you realize that? To make you see that I want you any way I can get you. That I love you.”
― E.L. James, Fifty Shades Darker
---
A man in his mid-twenties made his way through the crowded halls of the airport, smiling as he came out with his lover, her soft hands against his arms, while pushing their cart full of laugage.
"Isn't this nice?" Se Kyung asked, smiling at her boyfriend.
Jonghyun chouckled, "Yeah, I can't wait to meet up with the guys."
Se Kyung pouted cutely, teasing her lover, "And leave me behind?"
Though Jonghyun would never fall for it, "Of course you can come, you know how Taemin is. And with Key you're practically his shopping buddy."
"Kibum is very nice to me," Se Kyung giggled, "I can't believe it's been two years since we last saw him! I can’t wait to see him again Jjong, we’ll go shopping and this time you can’t stop me, you pooper.”
On the luggage sat a kennel in which their dog was playfully barked in reply to Se Kyung’s statement. Se Kyung smiled and opened the kennel letting their dacshund climb eagerly into her arms, “Yeah, Roo, tell daddy how he’s a party pooper not letting mommy go shopping.” She cooed.
“No! Roo! Mommy’s just blackmailing you!” Jonghyun interjected.
The couple laughed as they made their way through the doors of Incheon International Airport, breathing in Korea’s fresh air.
Jonghyun smiled, “It’s good be home.”
---
Key had the phone in between his ear and his shoulder while he got cold drinks from the fridge, “You’re what?” He shouted through the little device.
“I’m in Korea. Wanna go out for a drink tonight?”
“How? Wait, you’re in Korea. Like right now?”
There was a heavy sigh, “Yes Key, I’m in Korea, right now.”
Key contemplated, “I don’t know Jjong, I have something planned for tonight.”
Jonghyun laughed, “That’s okay.”
“Wait, when are you going back to the States?”
“Never.”
“Wait I think I heard wrong, you’re not coming back to America?” Key asked as he sat down on the couch next to Onew giving him a drink.
“Who is it?” Onew asked quietly.
“Jonghyun.” He mouthed. Onew flinched inside. God, he hasn’t spoken to him in a long time. Five years to be exact. The last time they ever spoke to each other was when Jonghyun heard of the news that he and Key broke up and that was not a good conversation at all.
“Yeah, I got a job for S.M. Entertainment. I am now one of their lyricist and composer.” Key heard a laugh at the other side.
“Holy shit! That’s awesome, congrats. What about Se Kyung?”
“She got a job here too. Heh, she can’t stay away from my hotness.” Key rolled his eyes.
“In your dreams dino boy.”
“Well Se Kyung is glaring at me. I’m in trouble, I need to go Key. We’ll catch up at Taemin’s wedding alright? It’s three days from now right?”
Key heard a feminine voice in the background saying, ‘You’re in so much trouble Kim Jonghyun.’ and he couldn’t help but laugh at their playful antics.
“Yeah,” Key confimed, “You better not be late. I’ll call you later. Yeah, bye.” And with that he shut his phone close.
He looked at Onew, “Jonghyun’s back.” He gleefully said.
“I heard,” Onew chuckled.
“Do you guys still talk to each other?"
Onew shook his head. He was glad that Key didn’t pry on the issue, rather he stood up and went to get something.
“Where are you going?” Onew questioned.
“I’m going to get something. I forgot to give it to you.” He replied, Onew staring at Key’s retreating back.
A few seconds after, Key returned with a small white envelope in his hand, “Here.”
Onew reached for the envelope, his eyebrows knitted full of confusion, “What’s this?”
“It’s an invitation to Taemin and Minho’s wedding, they gave it to me to give to you," Key told him honestly. The brunette was cuddling beside Onew for warmth, "Do want to go?"
“I don’t know. If I do go, I’ll need to bring Sunyoung with me.”
At the mention of Onew’s wife’s name, Key stiffened. Key bowed his head, grasping his trousers tightly, calming himself. He needed to understand that Onew still had responsibility with his wife, but he couldn’t help but be slightly possessive. He wanted Onew, but at the same time Onew still had to attend to his wife, which he rarely saw now he was with Key all the time.
So I’ll be meeting her... I guess it’s just a matter of time until I did anyways.
“Let her come with you.” Key said aloud.
Onew looked at his lover’s face and quietly he moved to stoke Key’s hair, “Are you sure?”
“Yeah, it’s note like we’re going to do something in front of her,” He scoffed, “Because it’ll ruin our little secret.”
Key moved his face to face Onew’s, “I love you.” He leaned closer and their lips touched. Then Onew carressed his cheeks, then peppered Key’s face with light, fufilling kisses.
“I love you too and thank you.”
---
One stroke after another, a small line of green, and a stoke of blue, Key busied himself with his newest commission when the doorbell resonated throughtout the walls of his apartment.
Wipping his hands to somehow get the wet paint off his hands, he ran towards his front door.
Weird, I wasn't expecting Onew today. He said he had business to attend to today.
With a grin on his face he opened the door, "Onew I-" but cut himself when he saw that it wasn't Onew but an unknown man wearing a well ironed suit and a navy blue tie. Though Key found it suspicious that a man came to his house, the said man was all grin and just radiated with a brgiht attitude. And one more thing that gave Key doubt was the fact that the said man did not look Korean at all. He was tall with cerulean eyes, his had a strong built, and strawberry blonde hair.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Kim," The said man greeted. Key found himself awkwardly bowing to the man.
He laughs seeing Key's confusement, and introduced himself, "I'm Ivan Jones, from the Universtiy of St. Agnes from France, it has come to our attention, that you have entered a piece in an exhibition."
And the man spoke in perfect Korean. What could this guy want? He spoke to himself.
---
It was past seven when Onew was getting ready to go to work--today he wouldn't be able to go see Key because he had important business to attend to. His wife had gotten up early for him and cooked him breakfast as the usual. Most of the times, Onew would only have a few bites of the breakfast provided but for today, he complied himself to eat because the guilt ate him.
Last week was their anniversary and Onew had completely forgotten about that fact. He expected Sunyoung to atleast get angry at him for forgetting such an important occassion but to his surprise, his wife, just nodded and smiled at him sincerely assuring him that it was okay and he shouldn't get worked up because she understood that he had to work hard for the company.
And that made Onew twice as guilty, because while Sunyoung busied herself with preparations for their dinner anniversary, he was out with Key at a five star restaurant for a date. He had completely neglected his wife at such an important date.
He slowly ate the piece of toast on his plate and read the paper next to him. Sunyoung busied herselg by washing the dishes left from last night. While she washed, she called her husband's name, "Jinki-ah."
Onew moved his head upwards and turned to her, "Hm?"
She sheepishly smiled at him, "Well, I was wondering if I can go out today, Sulli was inviting me to go with he today for an appointment."
"Appointment?" He questioned.
She nodded in return, "She has an appointment with the doctor's today and she wanted me to accompany her, will that be alright with you?"
Onew internally flinched. Sunyoung just asked for his permission when she was allowed to make her own, "Sunyoung, you know you didn't have to ask for permission, you could've just went with Sulli, I don't mind," He said truthfully.
Sunyoung laughed, "I just wanted to let you know. Well off you go now. I don't want my little bunny to be late."
"Okay, then. Well I'm off to work," Onew stood up and kissed his wife's forehead, "Be careful today, alright?"
She nodded in return. Onew put on his coat and went towards the front door.
Sunyoung heard the car roar to life before speading away. She walked towards where the landline phone was placed and dialed a familiar number.
"Sulli? Yeah, he said yes. I'll see you in a few minutes?"
Time for a check-up. I hope the test wasn't wrong
---
On contrary to populatr belief, Key was a very calm and collected person. Well as calm and collected that he should be but this time he wasn't because that idiot best friend of his decided to pay him a surprised vist.
"Key!" He barged in like it was no one's business. How he got it? Easy, he knew where Key's spare key--no pun intended-- was.
And behind that idiot best friend of his was his girlfriend, none other than Se Kyung herself. She laughed nervously and silently apologized for the ruckus that her boyfriend was making, "Kibum, I'm so sorry for Jonghyun. Sometimes that dino doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut."
Key laughed and hugged her, completely ignoring his best friend, "I missed you too Se Kyung. How have you been?"
Se Kyung hugged back and grinned at Key, "I've been well thank you, and you?"
"Working."
"Am I invisible or what? You don't even miss your bestfriend thanks a lot Key. I feel the love," Jonghyun sulked and Key rolled his eyes.
"You're such a drama queen, Jjong. Stop before I puke all over you," He laughesd out loud.
Jonghyun smirked, "No that would be you," Key playfully punched him, "Hey, that hurts! So, how have you been man? I missed you a lot."
"Missed you too and your idiot-ness," Key commented.
"Of course you have," Jonghyun declared proudly.
With the laughs and the conversations that went on that afternoon, it was obvious that the three had the most fun that they've have in two years.
Key purposely left Onew out of their conversations. Too afraid of what Jonghyun would do.
---
White on pearl aqua.
Beautiful. That had had been the only word that popped in Key's mind when he saw the venue of the wedding. White lilies on the side of the aisle and the red carpet leading to the make shift altar. The weather was sunny, not too hot nor too cold. It was perfect.
A perfect garden wedding.
Key sighed contently. He was happy for the two, and with that thought, he trailed towards the hotel where his two friends were currently at.
Seeing as though that he favored Taemin more, Minho knew it anyways so no offence could be placed, he headed towards the younger's room first. There, he saw the younger man on the dresser chair being tended to by the stylist, that was currently styling his hair. Off to the bed, he could see Se Kyung sitting and looking at Taemin, smiling.
"Tae-ah?" He called out. Taemin turned his head to see his favorite hyung, Key.
"Key-hyung, you made it!" He happily exclaimed, he stood up from the seat, the stylist hissing in a playful manner, and hugger Key burying his face on his chest. Taemin could be such a kid at times.
"Of course I would! I would never miss my son's wedding," Key declared proudly.
Taemin looked like he was in the brink of tearing up. It was no surprise to anyone that Taemin's parents wouldn't come. Being raised in a Catholic community his parents had always been religious. When he told them of his sexuality, they were very understanding, but when he told them that he was getting married, his parents had not contacted him. It was safe to say that they weren't going to show.
"Thank you Key-umma," Taemin called him by his old nickname. Key had always been the younger's mother figure. Key smiled and ruffled his hair, being mindful to not mess it up a lot, the stylist would kill him.
"No problem, Tae. This is your day, there's no need to look for those that can't be found."
Unexpectedly the door of the hotel room opened, then it revealed a taller man dressed in well ironed tux. Minho. Key angrily sighed.
"Yah! Choi Minho! Get the hell out of here! You can't see Taemin," He nagged while chasing away the grroom.
Minho prostested, "Key, I just wanted to see him!"
"No now get out!"
It was a beautiful day indeed.
---
Minho stood by the end of the aisle, waiting patiently for his soon-to-be husband to walk to him and commit theyselves into partnership for the rest of their lives.
Everyone, their close friends and family, had been very excited for them and they couldn't wait to witness the two's beautiful exchange of vows.
Taemin on the other hand stood by other end very nervous. Se Kyung, who was infront of him, laughed and patted his face, "Sweety, you're going to be fine. If you make a mistake, it's not like he's going to leave you. You've gone this far haven't you?"
Jonghyun who was next to her chuckled, "And Minho's too whipped to let you go."
Key watched everything from where he was. He just wondered when this would happen to him.
"I just wish that my parents were here."
There was tap on Key's shoulder. He craned his head to look back and grinned widely.
"Tae-ah?"
"Hmm?'
"Look back," Key instructed. Taemin did as he was asked to and immediately bombarded the person with a tight hug.
"Taesun-hyung! I-I can't..." Taemin was completely speechless as his brother just smirked at his brother.
"I couldn't miss out on my brother's wedding could I?'
They walked towards the aisle. The flower girls, skipping down the aisle. Yoogeun, Minho's younger brother walked with the rings in his hand. Jonghyun and Se Kyung, hands clasped together, walking down to the aisle. Key walking by himself confidently. And finally, Taemin and his brother next to him. Taemin was gorgeous. The white tux that was especially designed by Key fit him perfectly and casted that bright illusion. He looked like an angel that fell from above.
Minho patiently waited until Taemin was with him, his brother handing him to Minho, not before he whispered, "Take care of my brother," and went off to the right side to sit.
They exchanged vows. Vows of staying forever, through the better or the worse, and to never go against each other and they kissed each other before the priest even had the chance to tell them.
It was perfect, but was a wedding without some drama?
---
The reception was at the hotel's ballroom and was decorated much like it was at the church.
The newly weds were busy in their own world, playing and teasing each other.
But the thing that Key was worried about was that Onew had yet to show at the wedding.
It didn't take long though, it was only a few minutes until the door opened and revealed the business-like persona of a handsome man that stood tall and confident, next to him was a beautiful woman with her flowing brown hair and wore a white dress, the designs were so eye-catching. The two of them were eye-catching. There was no doubt that it was Onew along with his wife Sunyoung.
Jonhyun who sat next to him gritted his teeth and ubruptly stood up, "Jinki, what are you doing here?"
Onew looked at him, "I'm here because I was invited Jonghyun."
"Jjong, calm down," Minho told him.
"How can I when he's-"
"Jonghyun, it's alright," Key smiled at him. Jonghyun's eyes widened.
"Key you-" Jonghyun was speechless, Was Key protecting Onew?
"Onew's a friend," Key stated.
Jonghyun kept the indifferent look on his face. Key and Jonghyun would have to talk later. He didn't want this wedding to be a disaster.
He sat down next to Se Kyung who was rubbing circles on his hands. She whispered, "Calm down, Jjong. Calm down."
Wanting to break the silence. Taemin stood up, "Onew-hyung, I'm glad that you could make it!"
Minho nodded, "Hyung sit down."
Onew and Sunyoung sat down at the available seats, Sunyoung sitting next to Minho while Onew occupied the seat next to Sunyoung on the left was Key.
"You must be Jinki's friends, that he's ben talking about lately," An feminine voice said.
Taemin cheerfully greeted her, 'That must be us."
She giggled, "Congratualtions by the way. To the two of you."
"Thank you," Minho replied.
The woman gasped, "Oh excuse me, it seems that I forgot my manner, My name is Park-Lee Sunyoung. I'm Jinki's wife."
They say that you don't know know there were cracks in things until they shattered completely. And somehow, Key found it hard to breathe. The reality was set, but he just had to be selfish to win.
While the other's conversed, Key gave Onew a look and smiled when they thought the other's weren't looking, but Jonghyun didn't miss the look.
Something was going on. He felt it. Something very wrong was going on.
---
When everybody was dancing, Jonghyun was with Onew, Sunyoung, Se Kyung, and Key together, Sunyoung had kindly asked Onew to get something to drink which the husband immediately did. Jonghyun excused himself from the group while Se Kyung went to where Taemin was. Leaving Key and Sunyoung behind.
Jonghyun followed Jinki. Stopping him dead on his tracks.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jonghyun hissed.
"I don't know what you're talking about Jonghyun." Onew replied calmly at he grabbed a glass of water for Sunyung.
"I saw it. You're obviously doing something to Key. Stop leading him on."
Onew ignored him and walked pass. Just then Jonghyun went in front of him, "Why do you insist on hurting him?"
"I don't."
"Then why?"
Onew didn't answer. Jonghyun walked closer, "I will beat you to a pulp if you as much as make him cry. A single drop Jinki, don't forget that."
And with that Jonghyun passed him bumping his shoulder against Onew's.
"Just remember, karma hits you twice as hard."
---
"So," Sunyoung started, "You must be Kibum?"
"Yes," He plainly replied but smiled at the woman nevertheless. God, he'd never thought he would meet Onew's wife this way.
He played with the glass of champagne in his hands and looked at her, "You aren't going to drink? I can get you one if you'd like."
Sunyoung shook her head but thanked Key for his offer, "No thank you, I can't have any?"
Kibum chuckled, "Can't hold you're alcohol?"
She laughed in return, "No, not at all, I'm not allowed to."
Key knitted his eyebrows, "Why not?"
Key watched as Sunyoung looked around as if searching for someone. She then leaned in closer, "Please don't tell anyone, I haven't told Jinki yet."
"What is it?"
"The reason I can't have anything alcoholic is because I'm expecting."
CRASH
Key didn't know what shattered to pieces faster, the glass or his heart.
He gulped, the champagene and dessert that he ate not too long ago was rising up to his throat.
"Y-You're pregnant?"
---
"Shards of me,
Too sharp to put back together...
Too small to matter,
But big enough to cut me into so many little pieces..."
