Hello lj! I haven't posted in you for a very very long time. Mostly because I switched over to cimbyintheuk.blogspot.com to record my adventures in the UK. But since that's kind of my official "check out what I'm doing" blog, I feel weird just blathering about nothingness. So, here's some generic blather ( Read more... )

First and foremost: Ugh, Princeton, boo hiss boo. I'm still of the mindset that you just need to realign your research interests and come to Yale. ;)

With regard to rejoining the music loop, I recommend investigating the following: "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga (I'm not usually her biggest fan, but this one's ridiculously catchy); "Already Gone" by Kelly Clarkson; "Happy" by Leona Lewis; and Kris Allen's album, which just came out and is really good, especially considering that it's his first post-Idol production (and they ditched that god-awful "No Boundaries" song he had to sing in the finale).

What exactly makes a dress "New England"?

Happy Thanksgiving!!

http://www.modcloth.com/store/ModCloth/Womens/Dresses/Solid/Kennebunkport+Dress <- New England-y dress. I dunno, its muted colors and vaguely nautical theme? It just seems very New England to me, especially having now visited a real New England lake resort and seen THOSE people lol.

Lady Gaga? ehh. I do like the Kelly Clarkson song, I knew about that one before I left. I'll have to check out Kris Allen's album. That single was pretty good.

Your old city is nice this morning! At a Starbucks right across the street from Berklee

Aww, I miss my city. Why do you keep going there anyway?

Apartments are reserved for married students? Unless that's a new policy, that's bad information, because I definitely have an enormous one-bedroom apartment and I'm definitely not married.

I also cannot say enough good things about Princeton. I'm not in your department, but still, holy crap amazing. Do it.

Really? Hmm. I just clicked through the graduate housing link off the graduate college page and it just said options were dorm style or married student apartments. (And also refused to show floor plans without a princeton login boo hiss.) Sweet, that's good to know.

"While the Graduate College and Annexes offer dormitory housing for students without dependents, unfurnished apartments are available for graduate students and their families."

I knew I wasn't hallucinating. Although I suppose it does not specifically say that ONLY graduate students with families can get into apartments.

Still, its good to know that I could potentially get into an apartment. That plus the fact that its a 5 year program rather than 7 (along with all the other silly things like good job placement record, a potential supervisor with similar-ish interests, etc) is inching Princeton towards the top of the list.

Yeah, I think everyone in my cohort who requested an apartment got one, so there's hope. But if you're into the roommates/find a house plan, I also know folks who have gone that route and love it. The only bad idea at Princeton is off-campus apartments; they're terrible and ridiculously expensive.

I know applying is still a ways off for you, but when the time comes, I'd definitely be willing to chat, get copies of floor plans for you, whatever. The beauty (or downside?) of facebook and LJ is that people never totally lose touch. :P
