Jeremy's older brother really gets on my nerves. I don't know if we clash because we are both oldest children, or because we're both kind of artsy, or what it is, but we really just don't.. mesh. We get along OK, but not in the living in the same house kind of way, and I wish he was in Canada already so I didn't have to deal with him

Think of this as God's way of warning both you and the current girlfriend that this boy has serious control issues. Unless he really believes that these friends will abuse his child - and can prove it - he has no control over who goes where. Unless he can prove neglect, he certainly can't require his ex quit her job - a job that she might well be required to have by the state, so that she can continue to receive some social services.
So what he is telling his current girlfriend is that she is now in for the long haul - no matter how much time passes, no matter how "no longer dating" they are, he still believes that he can and should control her. Imagine how much he thinks he should be able to control her now, while they are dating!
