question:

if you at first think something but then realize how stupid/bad/assinine/horrible/egotistical/myopic/etc. the thought is...are you still a good person?

or put it another way:

does counteracting intially bad thoughts and repeating to yourself "thats so stupid" or "how could i even think that" make a bad person with a conscious or a good

First, I'm going to go ahead and be anal and correct "conscious" to "conscience".

Having said that, I've always viewed impulsive thoughts as something outside of the moral realm. As long as you realize they'd be bad if carried out, I think the conscience makes you a good person.

i think about this one a lot. the conclusion i;ve reached is that good doesn't have much of a definition without free will, wwhich implies that there must be bad and that it must be in some form desirable or instinctive, otherwise your "goodness" is just a natural or maybe obedient reaction. so i think the retraction of bad thought is one of the best examples of being good, ihave a hard time saying that people who wouldn;t have the bad thought at all are necessarily good.
