I wouldn't have stood outside in the cold among a record crowd for anything, but I was more than happy to watch today's inauguration of Barack Obama in our conference room with some of my co-workers. Most of them voted for "the other guy ( Read more... )

I can identify with this... I was fairly politically agnostic up until 8 years ago (commonly known as an independent). However, the nightmare of the past 8 years has firmly pushed me into the Democratic camp.

When George W. Bush was elected, I just thought he was a buffoon. I thought he would be a one-term President who wouldn't be able to screw up too much over the course of 4 years. And for the first six months or so, it looked like I would be right. (Remember back when he had to create news by having a primetime speech to the nation about his decision not to federally fund research on any newly created stem cell lines?) And then 9/11 happened, and he had the fuel he needed to do nearly anything that he wanted.

I'm optimistic for the first time in my adult life that things really can get better. And it's a good feeling to have.

I think that's the key word here--optimism. For the first time, I finally have some optimism of the country potentially going in the right direction. His speech today really hit home with me. It showed the right amount of determination to get things done, the compassion to work with the world but not afraid to defend our freedom.

His enthusiasm has already inspired me with the work he did yesterday. He demonstrated what everyone needs to be doing.

That's a reason to be more involved in politics.

hey there! Daren Fowler has confirmed Avenue Q, so I'll go ahead and send you a check for both our tickets. Bjorg and Brian are still consulting their schedules. Let me know if there are still additional tickets for them.

We ran out and I had to request additional tickets! I put Daren on the list, and now have 3 remaining.
