I just read Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls by Jane Lindskold which is wonderful. Engine Summer by John Crowley. Charles De Lint Tamora Pierce, who thanks to Harry Potter is now able to sell longer more densely woven books to ther publisher. Even the early ones are fun. Terry Pratchett Arthur Ransome (Swalows and Amazons, et al.) Who are your favorites? I have a house full of books and boxes in the attic of our workshop, so I know the feeling.
I'll have to check into these. Pratchett I have a few of- none of the others. I have heard good things about de Lint.
Favorites? That's a hard one. It depends on the genre, time of day and my mood. Simon R. Green, Stephen King, Nancy Atherton, Shirley Rousseau Murphy are a few of the authors I like.
I realized that I have an advanced readers copy of this... and it was titled Let Me In. I thought at first that maybe it was a sequel or prequel or something... Did you like it?
Hmm, yeah, I don't really know what you like, but I can echo the Neil Gaiman recommendations. Pretty wide variety of things to choose from (American Gods is probably his best novel, but if you're looking for something lighter, there's Stardust. I'm planning on reading The Graveyard Book soon...)
I love Margaret Atwood, if you have anything of hers handy...
If neither of those work, then here: Amanda and drums. ;)
