Biography:
Emi was born in Shanghai, China to a Chinese father and a Japanese mother. But she didn't really get to know them very well because her mother died during childbirth and before she could turn four her father killed himself due to a broken heart. Because she had no other family in China, she was sent to live with her doting grandmother in Japan, who cared for her to the best of her abilities. And then she died when Emi turned sixteen, which probably sounds incredibly tragic because essentially, she'd lost all of the family she had.

And it was tragic. Despite inheriting all of her parents and her grandmother's riches, which was quite a sizable amount, Emi still lapsed into a deep state of depression. She constantly felt alone and abandoned, and surrounded herself with other people by taking up odd jobs here and there while still attending school. And then school became unbearable because everyone around her was so happy that she dropped out of high school and focused on her various jobs as a florist's assistant or a daycare assistant or a bookstore assistant; she took whatever jobs she could find for however long, because she wanted to be around people and feel useful.

It took a while but slowly, Emi found the ability to smile again. During her phases of working at the bookstore, she grew an affinity for writing stories and poems, or even just writing down her thoughts. When she worked at the planetarium, she became fascinated with stars and the vastness of space, and when she worked as a waitress at sports bars, she became a fan of all sorts of sports.

When she turned nineteen, Emi decided that she'd worn out her stay in Japan, and knowing that she wasn't leaving any broken hearts behind (well, maybe one, but that's a totally different story), she packed what little she had, bid farewell to all of the people she worked for, and flew to Seoul. While in Seoul she befriended a few people, including a girl that she had a particular fondness for. She was kind, she was funny, she was cute, and she had the same competitive trait that Emi had developed when she'd worked at the sports bars and she would bet with the patrons on which teams would win. She'd even given Emi the nudge she needed to restart her education.

When Emi had expressed the desire to go back to school, the girl told her about Yonsei University, a school that her parents tried to make her attend (but to no avail), and made a bet with Emi that she couldn't get into one of the sororities there and actually stick it out until the end of her senior year. Due to her competitiveness, Emi immediately took the tests to enroll (which she passed with colors, but not flying ones), paid off her tuition for the next few years, and rushed for (and was accepted into, of course) the only sorority whose description she even remotely liked - Sigma Kappa.

But... that didn't last too long. Just before the second semester of her junior year, Emi got into a fist fight off-campus when she defended some of her fellow sisters from the lascivious advances of two bar patrons at a poetry lounge that she was working at. Part of her did it because she was genuinely disgusted by the way they were treating the other girls, while the other part of her did it because she really didn't care what the outcome might be - it was one of those nights where the depression hit full-throttle and she was missing her family like crazy. She came out of it with just a bruise here and there, because after the first few punches on her part and some rough pushes on theirs, the two patrons decided to be gentlemen and refused to hit a girl, but despite the girls' promises to keep the fight a secret, the university found out (of course), and had no choice but to kick her out of the sorority. (Obviously this made her lose the bet with her friend, but the other girl's reward was one Emi would have given her if she'd just asked for it before).

Now Emi's twenty-three (twenty-four? the Korean age system always confused her), a senior, and she lives in her own apartment not too far from the university. If she was still in Sigma Kappa she would have been one of the oldest in the sorority and people sometimes wondered why she didn't try to rejoin and become the president but, to put it simply, she's much too lazy for it and wouldn't have the motivation to lead the other girls. She still attends a few parties, and she's friendly and offers help to the other students whenever they might need it, but other than that, she sticks to herself. That's really all there is - so far.

Personality:
Emi's kind of an enigma. She's never fit into the cookie-cutter description of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, nor its rumors and notoriety, and even now she still doesn't. She's friendly, but you wouldn't say she's kind. She's smart, but she's not intelligent. She loves to eat, but she never gains a pound, nor can she be bothered enough to learn to cook for herself. She's a generally pretty girl, but she likes to box and play ice-hockey (she's on both teams) and watch them, too. She looks frail, but she's not afraid to throw punches when punches need to be thrown. She'll interact with anyone, whether they're from “sorority A” or “fraternity C”. And if people called her fake or started rumors about her - well, she wouldn't care. She doesn't try to conform to the standards of those around her because she doesn't feel the need to; if there was anything her grandmother constantly told her, it was always to be herself. And that's what Emi will do until the day she dies.

Notes of Interest:
→ Emi works at a planetarium that is located between her apartment and the university, on every Monday and Thursday for its late-night shows, from 6PM to its closing time at 12AM.
→ Her friendliness is sometimes misconstrued as flirtiness, but it rarely ever is; just because a person's gender doesn't matter to her in regards to attraction (sexual or not), doesn't mean she'll jump into bed with anyone she likes.
→ She laughs at rumors about herself. She thinks they're silly and wonders why anyone would waste their time spreading lies about her, especially when all they'll do is amuse her rather than hurt her.
→ She is somewhat of an insomniac, which is something she developed during her bout of depression after her grandmother died. If she's not working, she'll probably be found at a local bar or cafe, so if anyone wanted to bunk at her apartment for the night, they'd have to call first.
→ Of her hobbies, Emi has a particular love for stars. So if she's not at home or out eating, check the nearest park and she'll probably be hanging out on the monkey bars.
→ She doesn't drink at parties, but she will drink leisurely at home or somewhere off-campus. She likes to play drinking games!
→ She doesn't smoke and hates the smell; she doesn't condemn it nor condone it, she just won't hang out with someone very much if they're constantly smoking.
→ Emi is, to put it bluntly, wealthy, but this isn't something she announces to the world. It's not like she tries to hide it, it's more that she doesn't feel the need to tell others that she's quite well-off. That's why those who know she's rich are always confused as to why she works odd jobs here and there.
→ There are days where she won't leave her apartment, much less her room, because something will remind her of her family and she'd rather not be around people when she bawls her eyes out.
