Title: Post-it
Author: Cinderlily
Pairing: Nick/Greg
Summary: Greg has a thing for Post-its
Author's Note: this is my first foray into this fandom, and I don't know how I feel about this. I wrote this, quite honestly, on a whim, when I opened my Abiword and just began typing. I usually write angst, so this pure and absolute fluff is odd to me, and I am sorry if it is just way too smoopy. :) I tried. *cute innocent face*
Rating: Hah... umm PG? Fluff? Cheese? Go with what you will, I don't really think there is anything offensive in this.
Greg had a thing with Post-its. He quite frequently reminded himself of things by posting things around his house, reminders for meetings, Dr.'s appointments. Sometimes the Post-its were just little things he wanted to remember. Around his mirror were CSI related things, things that the team had had to remind him of in the field. A note just above his bedside phone reminded him to call his parents, or else suffer the Wrath of Mom. A note on the lamp on the other side of his bed reminded him to keep a set of clothing and his pack ready on his nights on call.
No one knew of this, of course, as he rarely had people in his house, and the post its weren't too noticeable in the areas that people actually would visit. So it shocked him when Nick made a comment about it the first time he walked in to his bedroom.
"Think you got enough yellow in this room, G?" Nick laughed. "You know, some people have a PDA to keep themselves organized."
"I have one of those, too," Greg replied, somewhat defensively. He instinctively pointed to a Post-it on the inside of his door that reminded him to grab his PDA in the morning. Nick laughed a little bit louder. Greg glared a little, and pointed out, "It's to remind me of important things, so I can't forget them."
Nick nodded in a mock solemn way, and Greg was thankful when he thought the subject had been dropped. The next evening however, when he walked in to the lab, he had to laugh when he saw a bright yellow Post-it on the door to the fridge saying, 'This keeps things cold'.
"So you don't forget," came a voice from behind him. He turned to see a bemused look on Nick's face.
"Thank you, Nick," Greg replied sarcastically.
And it became a bit of a tradition after that, little sarcastic notes would be found all over his lab, and even a few times on his equipment when he was working on the scene.
'Buy more Post-its' was found on a pile on his printer.
'This way up' was found upside down on his microscope.
'Warning: Tastes funny' was found on a bottle of sulfuric acid.
'Time to move the porn' was found on his desk one evening, which he thought would have been funnier if Grissom hadn't followed him in, or maybe that just made it funnier, he wasn't sure which.
And it felt like the a bizarre courtship, the little yellow papers he found. He kept them in order in an old scrap book his mom had given him as a gift. Not that he would tell Nick that, because he wasn't entirely sure what the hell they were doing, but he liked what it was, and wouldn't begin to risk messing that up with asking questions.
Sometimes, late at night, when Nick was sprawled next to him, taking up well over half the bed in his sleep, Greg stayed awake and thought of what was going on, and what he was doing. He always had to resist putting a Post it up to remind himself to not think about it and to just go with the flow, but he knew with the amount of nights Nick spent in his place, he would definitely notice, and Greg had no idea how he would explain it. The nights he spent thinking always ended with him waking up after Nick had left to shower and change at home.
One such evening he rolled over to find a bright yellow piece of paper on the pillow beside him. It took him more than a few seconds to read the paper, and blinked a few times and reread it.
'I love you.'
Greg got dressed and went into work in a complete haze, and was shocked to find another paper on his desk, reading simply, 'Just so you don't forget."
