Remember when LiveJournal had lots of users and oodles of drama? It's made its way to Facebook, but bigger, because the whole world is on it.
Personally, I think unfriending just to see who notices sounds like a badge of insecurity. And who the hell keeps compulsive tabs on their list of friends? File that one under "get a life."

*sidenote* I will cop to keeping an excel spreadsheet when I first joined FB, just to keep track of who was coming and going. Now...you're right, I "got a life", hahaha.

I do delete people on occasion because I like to be able to keep up with everyone. If I don't interact with someone or care about their updates, eventually I am going to delete them. I took the same approach with LJ. I never did friend-cuts to be a jerk, just wanted to be able to keep up and stay interested. And it was never a cry of "who will notice" because the answer on FB usually is "nobody." And not because they dislike you, but because that's the nature of FB.
