So I had an old boyfriend from Memphis "friend" me on Facebook, on a secondary account that I hardly ever use and only have 24 friends on.  I was scratching my head because he and I were already friends on my primary FB.  So I go look and nope, he's no longer my friend.  Now last time I actually msged or talked to him was last summer.  He spends ( Read more... )

I'm really glad we're connected on Facebook, especially when it feels like LiveJournal is shriveling up and dying -- something I'm not at all happy about.

Remember when LiveJournal had lots of users and oodles of drama? It's made its way to Facebook, but bigger, because the whole world is on it.

Personally, I think unfriending just to see who notices sounds like a badge of insecurity. And who the hell keeps compulsive tabs on their list of friends? File that one under "get a life."

I'd sure miss your delicious wit :) cindylouwho88 August 18 2012, 16:38:14 UTC
Me too, I am happy I can expand to more than one or two sentences to folks and actually get responses. Maybe we can start a "Return to LiveJournal" revival!

*sidenote* I will cop to keeping an excel spreadsheet when I first joined FB, just to keep track of who was coming and going. Now...you're right, I "got a life", hahaha.

If you watch TV or even a lot of films, you quickly run across the guy who goes to a new part of town or a city we haven't seen before and suddenly we meet his exceptionally close friend, his ex lover who probably had an amicable break up or failing that, still wants to boink him ( ... )

Yes, per usual, you hit the nail on the head J. Wanting attention and initmacy w/o fostering it. Maybe if Ralph was wearing a lampshade and made an exit? You notice when the loud, obnoxious ones leave...or the ones that post wise words of wisdom, you miss that too when it's gone :)

The thing I like about facebook is I have a window into the lives of friends and relatives I rarely interact with. What I hate about it is people I'd grown to know fairly well on LJ don't make the long, "Here's what is going on in my life these days," posts that let me get to know them.

I miss that.

yes on both points. Although sometimes I feel flakey in that that IS how I keep up with people. But I guess some contact is better than no contact.

I don't delete anyone from my facebook, I tend to miss most things, I'm sure, because I have 900 friends or so. People probably think I just add anyone, but I know everyone on my list. With it being so easy to hide people you don't care about, I don't understand deleting. (I don't hide anyone either) Sound like he was just making excuses, it's weird.

Hey and you too and Sherm and Renee. I like keeping the connection too, even if we don't interact all the time, ya never know when I'm going to need something or be somewhere and think, hey, I used to have this friend. Or you're in Vegas and you need a ride from The Mirage to NY/NY :)and yes, it was weird.

Totally, and we like looking at your photos, seeing what's going on in your life, from time to time too :)

That is weird. I notice if someone defriends me because I have a Firefox script that tells me. Otherwise I would never notice if ANYONE defriended me, except maybe Kevin.

I do delete people on occasion because I like to be able to keep up with everyone. If I don't interact with someone or care about their updates, eventually I am going to delete them. I took the same approach with LJ. I never did friend-cuts to be a jerk, just wanted to be able to keep up and stay interested. And it was never a cry of "who will notice" because the answer on FB usually is "nobody." And not because they dislike you, but because that's the nature of FB.

Oh, that would be cool to have. I am so techno blank and honey used to take care of all the electronics, I just have Explorer.

And I agree, it's the nature of Facebook, ty for voicing, I thought maybe I was missing the point, lol.

Yes, it seemed very junior high to me too. I've asked to friend people who tell me the same thing, they only use Facebook for family, which is fine, no need to get offended or anything. Thanks for weighing in.
