Truth be told, for the past few weeks I have been counting down until November 16th. What is so special about that day? That is the day I show my last 290. I will have made 5 films in 15 weeks. It's a pretty impressive feat. I have become a film factory. Churning them out one by one. It became a joyless process for me. I got ideas, I shot raw ( Read more... )

And years later, critics would write "Paige Feldman does for rape what Quentin Tarantino did for murder!"

Just kidding, of course. I think everyone goes through this sort of career self-questioning, and you always come out stronger. Indeed, you shall be the most famous Feldman since Marty!

Joel (my boyfriend) is thinking about a PhD in Critical Studies. Right now he's thinking masters in American Studies but Critical Studies is still there on his plate. Good luck with the final steps in finishing your film. Someday soon I'm going to know someone famous.

Love,
Erica

go paige! yeah, i felt really passionately about all my 290s... they weren't just "ok, i have to make a movie for a class, let's get this over with". I felt like I actually wanted to say or show something with each of them, even in just 10 minutes, mostly with no dialogue. And now matter how they came out, I really enjoyed making them because i felt like in some repsect they were important, or significant, even just a little, as opposed to "let's just make a movie to make a movie."

of course, 290 makes you be a one man band, basically. and i doubt people working on, i dunno, Son of the Mask really are passionate about what they're creating, day in, day out. That's the part of the industry i am dreading. Just churning out a product and not feeling like the world (or me) would be any different if it didn't exist at all.

can't wait to see your movies!!!

well that's awesome. it gave me goosebumps and got me excited just picturing if i was you in that moment. I wish i could say i hadn't questioned my career path this semester. i almost feel committed to just sitting behind a desk--it would be easier than doing anything worthwild--and college sure beats the shit out of making one do meaningless crap ( ... )
