Sunday was my first attempt at applying what little I know of the spanish circle, a la Thibault. Mixed results... I certainly used more lateral effect, but nor necessarily well. So I've been deep in my research for some time. Combined with my personal experiences and interpretations, I have come to the belief that it's all wrong....from the foundation up. The language is wrong. The intent is wrong. Everything built up from there is inherently flawed. It can't be fixed till we go back to the beginning.

I have six or so papers started on varied topics (in fencing.) I usually produce a strong list of things I want to say, and usually a skeleton structure mapped out. Now it's time to start writing.....and nothing. I can shell out words and lines, but they never feel right. They feel fake. So I really really want to start writing research papers on all that I've learned from period sources and on the list fields. However, I find the task of explaining the mysteries of fencing in a 25 page paper somewhat daunting. I think, perhaps, I will instead focus my efforts on narrower subjects first. So I was reading Armour Archive the other day....again. There was a thread talking about whether the thrust was an appropriate technique in heavy combat, specifically in tournaments.
