I live at Wal-marts home...about 30 miles away from Bentonville,AR. So many people from all over have relocated here to work with the home office. They had a meeting here several months ago and you would not have believed the amount of people swarming all over the NW region of Arkansas. Wal-mart does seem to be taking over the world. It sucks ass for the small business owners and for us because ultimately they will have All OF THE business and jack up the prices on us all.

I agree! I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart. Always have. And besides, being in a Wal-Mart store is Hell-on-Earth!

I also live here in the NW Arkansas area so I feel the need to say something. Yes wal-mart is taking over the world, but they are also providing a LOT of jobes in an area with a high poverty level. If it wasent for wal-mart a lot of people in the area would have no choice but to work in even low paying jobs at Tysons or some other chicken plant. Chicken plants where the majority of the workers are here with out papers or false ones and dont even speak english. Wal-mart is no savior of the nation but they are no devil. They provide a decent job in a decent enviorment and low price toilet paper. There are a lot better companies for the world to go after.

That's a probably one good reason why Wal-Mart is popular down south. But in this neck of the woods it's a different story. There are other retailers around here who treat their employees well but have a hard time doing so while competing with Wal-Mart at the same time. For example, Zehrs employees are paid decent wages and receive medical benefits and paid time off. But because they have stiff competition from Wal-Mart, they decided to start opening "superstores" that are not called Zehrs where employees don't receive the pay and benefits that Zehrs employees get. They're not called Zehr's because the union would get after them about wages and benefits. So yeah, I'll pay extra to shop at Zehr's simply because I want to support a better standard of living for employees.

Ugh, I'd hate to see those chicken plants. I'm always confronted with good reasons to stop eating meat!
