i came across your lj on windsor users, and i happened to notice that you did a masters in public administration. im really curious about that program. its unlike an mba but can serve as one?
It's a lot like an MBA but more geared toward public service rather than business. A lot of public sector and non-profit organizations are run like businesses to a certain extent though. I did my concentration in human resources. You can choose from all kinds of concentrations.
ive come across that program, but i wasnt sure if it was applicable in Canada(the degree). what made you take it in the states rather than in Canada?, if you dont mind me asking. I have an interest in polisci and work at a private company. I would like to get into management/administration.
The only Canadian MPA program that I could find that was somewhat close to home was Western (I think) and you need an A- average to get in. So that was a no go. Also, most of the Canadian MPA programs are more policy-oriented. The WSU MPA is one of the few that is more administration oriented. I learned all about the nitty-gritty of running an organization. There was also heavy emphasis on practical application. We spent a lot of time meeting with professionals in the field. So this gave me hope that there are jobs out there for MPAs! Also, there's so much you can do with a WSU MPA. Our graduates are just all over the place doing all kinds of work! Policy-oriented MPA are much more limiting
