so i went to the tailors house for an appointment. her house was more of a mess than mom and dads, on a bad day... and it was supposed to be her place of business. and to top it off she wasn't even there... i'm thinking its a really bad idea to have her alter it... what do you think?

That does seem like a sign to find someone else. Have you seen any of her other work that would lead you to believe she'd do a good job despite her apparent lack of professionalism?

I think you're right. It's always smart to trust your instincts.

try doing a search on google rather than on yellow pages.
A lot of their results will have comments with them -- that's how I found the place to alter my dress out here.

Sometimes the comments aren't too helpful -- like there will be as many bad as good, but read them and see what they say.
Sometimes the people talk about different things - like they might not like the attitude of a person, but the work might be great.

If someone doesn't keep their appointment and their "business" looks terrible, it might not mean anything, but handing over your dress is a really big chance to be taking..
