Is this insane?

I totally just jacked the fuck out of a cockroach with my shoe as it was crawling across my computer desk. It is utterly incapable of harming me in just about any way given a few incredibly rare events we could neglect. It would intentionally have to be doing me harm. But it has no such intelligence or capability of intent. Nothing else in nature ( Read more... )

generally i have no ill will to the arthropods i meet, but there are a special few (including but not limited to cockroaches and moths) for whom i have a special fear/loathing- and the reason is this: other bugs go merrily and warily on their way...seemingly ignorant of my human presence but actually studiously avoiding it. on the other hand, roaches and moths have no qualms with getting all up in your personal space and, call me silly, it feels like violation of the unspoken standoff between vertebrate and invertebrate.

As we've discussed before, I totally agree with the encROACHment argument (and I giggle when I recall a couple of Ariane v. Moth standoffs). But I will let a butterfly land on the tip of my nose while I look around for someone with a camera. Or a ladybug. If a moth got that close to my nose, I'd smack it to next Tuesday. Even a pretty one. I don't even want to explore what I would do to a roach flying towards my head.

I suppose that makes some sense, but moths are just cute, little, blind night-time butterflies. Roaches at least get in your food which is gross.

nothing to add to this other than ladybugs once infested an apartment I rented. It was't pretty, it didn't smell good, & it was difficult to get rid of.
