I vote for stockinette, too, because it's the only thing I ever learned to do. And did that badly, too, because I could never control the tension on my yarn and even a scarf ended up looking like a tube of toothpaste that someone squeezed in the middle.
Still, that's a damn cute sweater. I'm sure the recipient will be overjoyed. :D
Stockinette in the round is even easier--all knit stitches.
If the recipient isn't overjoyed--she'll only be a year old--then I'm sure literally everyone else in the room will be profoundly surprised that I can knit things that aren't, like, hats. Including my mother. (Never mind that this is the third or fourth sweater she's seen me knit.)
I do! I'm almost done with the second sleeve so now I'm staring at the home stretch with a little bit of trepidation (some things I don't really know how to do are coming up), but I'll be done! so! soon! This is why small sweaters are the best.
