I knew he was going to do it, there were some not so subtle hints about it in the episodes leading up to the finale, and he has always been very clear about the fact that Dean is going to have to face the consequences of his actions when interviewed. BUT. Knowing that it was probably going to happen, and seeing Sam crying over Dean's shredded body are two different things
( ... )
I agree, it was ballsy of them. Though personally it didn't have quite the OMFG factor of previous season finales. Maybe because a Winchester dies every time and it was totally Dean's turn.
Though you're right, it is an interesting situation. You gotta give the show props for having dynamic story arcs beyond the whole Monster Of The Week bits. And if I watch much of it, Sam finding a way to get Dean out of hell is bound to be pretty fucked up and compelling.
No, I have no freaking clue about the icon. Maybe that reverse It's A Wonderful Life episode where the mom doesn't die?
That's true. But they have run out of Winchesters so the only person they could kill next season would be Bobby. Which would also suck.
I think you're right that it was lacking in an OMFG that the other two were, but I think that is because everyone knew going in that this was a possibility unlike season 1 where it literally came out of nowhere or season 2 where Sam got stabbed in the back. I don't think that is what Kripke was going for with this. It was more of a grim look at choices and consequences and less of a fucked up shit happens when you least suspect it thing. I thought that was enough of a change that I didn't mind that yet again someone died.
Also, props to your icon. I need to get me an Erica/Callie icon as well.
