"What should I do about the wild and the tame? The wild heart that wants to be free, and the tame heart that wants to come home. I want to be held. I don't want you to come too close. I want you to scoop me up and bring me home at nights. I don't want to tell you where I am. I want to keep a place among the rocks where no one can find me. I want to ( Read more... )

I love love love love love love love love love love her.

Love.

(A few years ago, some friends and I drove to hear her read in Chicago, but we got stuck in awful traffic and missed all of it except for her conclusion which was a dirty limerick.)

I bought The Powerbook this weekend -- the only other Winterson I've read is Art and Lies. I read most of that aloud in the bath to my dog a few years ago, because it was just -- too delicious to read silently.

(And also: finally am having some time to sit with your poems. I'll try to comment on them soon! Thank you for sharing them.)

yes - much too delicious for silence, that winterson is (what a yoda sentence i just made!). Anyhow, I've read everything by her except the first book -- sailing for beginners or something like that? -- and the powerbook is good, the narrative leaps a lot and is sparse. mm. now i want to reread it, it's been ages.

I used to reread Art and Lies like once a year forever.

and no worries about the poem -- i understand! Glad you had fun in Portland. I miss it sometimes.
