Does anyone think it's too gauche to ask her Fairy Godmother for her very own life-size Leonidas, complete with leather codpiece? Yeah, I didn't think so either.
Ha ha, no, no woman would have wanted to live in Greece a few thousand years ago. All you were allowed to do was stay in the house, cook, clean, take care of your children, and occasionally walk to the communal waterwell for water. It would have been dead boring. Now, on the other hand, men got to do everything, including naked wrestling at the palaestra.
Hey, have you seen HBO's Rome series? It's pretty good, and really bawdy.
Hiya Circe, thanks for the review. I'm trying to decide if I really want to fork over $8 bucks to see this one as I'm pretty sure I'll be disappointed. I read thisreview, which just goes to show it's more fun to write a bad movie review. Was this close to the mark? (Sweet cheeks aside.) (Hey sorry about the long URL - code doesn't seem to be working)
Yes, I would say that many of that critic's remarks are valid, if a bit grandiose in going for the jugular. I think one of the real problems with the film is what befalls any work which places style before content; there is little for the viewer to latch onto and empathize with. I'd say wait for the dvd, unless you have a really small tv, which might robe the spectacle of some of its impact. Or, wait for the dollar cinema if you have one around.
