I know you are not ready, but you should still prepare so that the wife and kids don't have to worry.

When my dad died of Colon Cancer in 2014, there were a lot of things we had to learn about right then, such as just having a will is not going to cut it! You have to take the will to probate court, that way no other family can pop up and say they should be in the will.

Life insurance... do you have any? My dad didn't, and when he passed, his retirement checks from his civilian jobs stopped, his pension was cut in half, and his military retirement stopped, so we were only left with my mom's measly retirement and her Social Security, and my meager VA disability.

Is everything paid off, like the house?
Life insurance will help with that.

We have not talked in a long, long time. Some mutual friends mentioned you and your situation. I just wanted to pop on here and let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts, and I wish you all the best.

It seems that I have missed a lot of your story. I am sorry for that. It looks to have been a good one.
