Summary :: Naruto and Sakura train to pass the time.
Sakura smiled, skipping to the training grounds strangely happy that morning after her picnic with Lee the day before, but eventually her skips slowed to a walk and eventually she stopped, taking in the sight of the training ground where Team 7 had their first session with the infamous Copy Ninja. It wasn't but a week or so ago that they once again trained with their silver-haired Sensei. However, one important addition to the team was missing, the very thought of the raven-haired individual caused a frown to form on her face.
Sakura promised not to worry about Sasuke anymore, but seeing her friend and teammate, Naruto, lose his optimistic expression at the mere mentioning of the Uchiha boy's name drove her insane. She hated seeing Naruto that way, and no matter how much he tried to hide it she knew he was in pain. As a friend should, she would do her best to help ease the pain and in turn hopefully heal her own. It was an endless cycle of pain and reassurance, all over a boy who reached both Naruto and Sakura's hearts. (cont)
Sighing, she sat against a log sitting vertical in between to other similiar pieces. Glancing up at the sun, she realized it was about noon, Naruto would be arriving soon.
Naruto was already running a little late, but what was one more bowl of ramen anyway? He trained hard! He earned it. "Ah, damnit! I'm gonna be late to meet up with Sakura-chan!" He moved a bit faster, not wanting to be as late as Kakashi would have been.
"Yo! Sakura-chan!!" He called as he got closer, spying her pink hair from a distance. He smiled and waved.
The pink-haired girl jumped at Naruto's sudden hollering of her name, but her frown instantly flipped into a smile at the sight of her blonde friend. If anything brought a smile to her face it was seeing the bright smile that spread across the fox boy's features. "Oh, Naruto-kun!" Waving in response she giggled, believing he most likely just came from Ichiraku for lunch. So typical of the blue-eyed boy. One of the few things that never changed, she thought to herself. "So, are you ready for training? It seems Sai may be running a bit late, and...well, if Sensei shows up...well, you know how he is."
"So I get you all to myself?" Naruto's face lit up even more. "Where's the downside to that? And I don't have to put up with that freak? Even better!" He started to stretch out his arms, windmilling them at his sides. "I'm so ready to train."
Giggling in response to Naruto's comment she winked, a sly tone in her voice when saying, "I'm all yours, Naruto-kun." Giving him a good smile, and not her fake one that she often provided to most people, she got into a fighting stance, her smile fading into a devious smirk. Oh was she going to have some fun, alone time with Naruto today. "Then let's go!"
"Bring it on!" Naruto shouted with a cheery grin, making a few clones to send at Sakura while he backed up a good distance away to avoid a sudden punch to the face. Let the clones take the brunt of the attack while he came up with a good strategy to get himself close without getting a fist in the face.
"Easy!" Sakura shouted, punching through the first of the clones, a puff of smoke emitting from where the fake Naruto once stood. Standing between two more she swiftly jumped to her hands, swinging her legs around, kicking them both without the need to use up any of her chakra for her god-like strength. He better not be toying with me, Sakura thought to herself, getting back on her feet, eyes focusing on the remaining clones, Naruto should know better than to underestimate and enemy. He has to have something up his sleeve.
Calculating the number of clones, she nodded her head, feeling the need to get rid of them to prevent utter chaos. Ripping a tree off to the side out of the ground, roots and all, she swung the gigantic hunk of wood like a twig, taking out a few more clones. "Is that all you got, Naruto-kun?" She stuck her tongue out teasing him, knowing he was much more capable than that.
"Holy fuck," Naruto cursed, his eyes widening at the display. He hated it when she did that. It was always so terrifying. He shook his head to clear it, tossing a few shuriken at her before moving and heading towards her left. "I got more than you could dream of, Sakura-chan!" he taunted. But, at the same time, he was afraid that too much would hurt her. That was the last thing he wanted, even though he wanted a fair match.
He met up with another clone, nodding as they both leaped at Sakura, fists ready.
Pulling out a kunai, she barely managed to block the shuriken, only to connect with Naruto's fist along with his clone in her right side, causing her to pull her hands up defensively, flying from her attacker. Regaining her balance, she landed on the ground with a skid, a smirk on her face, "Still holding back, are we?"
"I'm not holding back," Naruto denied, landing on the ground in a crouch and then springing at Sakura again to kick her.
"You better not be." Sakura trained with Tsunade to grow strong, not to watch the backs of her teammates once again. Ducking, she spun around, allowing Naruto to flow past her, her back against his, using her on going rotation to pull out a kunai and aim for his exposed back.
Naruto ducked into a quick roll, somersaulting away from Sakura and to her left to avoid the kunai. Propping his knee on the ground as he came out of his roll, he sprang for her legs, deciding to go for a grappling move rather than fighting head on.
"Eeep!" Sakura squeaked when the blond boy grabbed her, making her fall to the ground with a thud. Well, that was unexpected, Sakura grumbled to herself, trying to wriggle her way out of his grip, grabbing at his hands, rolling around in a frenzy.
"Ow! Tree branch!" Naruto winced as splinters from the tree from earlier poked him in the thigh. He struggled to get some leverage against her, bending his elbows, twisting and moving his legs, never being still. He was going to pin her, he decided with a small smile. Then, he'd declare himself the winner.
No...way! There was no way Sakura was going to give in. No way she would allow herself to lose. She spent too much time being the "weak" member in Team 7 and was tired of always having to come last! This time, however, things didn't look very well for the pink-haired medic-nin. No matter how much she trained under the Hokage herself, she was still no match for Naruto's determination, his inner strength, other than Kyuubi even. He had something that Sakura lacked, yet though she should feel infuriated for being overwhelmed by his natural ability to end up on top, literally in this case, she wasn't angry the slightest bit. Instead, she left herself to staring into his deep, blue eyes, wondering where he found such strength to fight. She was mesmerized.
Naruto merely grinned back at her. "Not bad eh? ... Sakura-chan?" He cocked his head to one side, his grin slowly changing into concern. His eyebrows rose a fraction as he started to sit up, worried he might've squashed something.
"Yeah...not bad." Releasing her gaze from Naruto, she managed to sit up, taking in deep breaths to try and get back to her normal heart rate. They hadn't put their full strength into battle, and they most likely never would for fear of harming the other, but it certainly made Sakura want to take a small break. "So, I believe Kakashi-sensei is out of the hospital now." A smile crept onto her slightly tired features, "It won't be long until we're back together as a team, albeit a much larger team."
Sakura tried not to add anything about Sasuke. He was just too much of a sore subject at the time, but felt a little hypocritical if she didn't mention him at all. She wanted to talk to Naruto about him, but was slightly afraid the boy would have some crazy idea to bust into Orochimaru's lair, seeking a "rematch."
"He is!?" Naruto broke into a smile again. "Let's go see him! He promised me some super awesome new training and I want to get started as soon as possible!" He brushed off his pants, stretching out his arms. "That was some awesome training, Sakura-chan. You have some monstrous strength. You almost had me."
"Thank you, Naruto-kun! But, monstrous? Don't get on my bad side, like Sai." Giving him a bright smile she jumped up along side him, nodding towards the direction of Ichiraku. "Are you hungry?"
"Always! You buying?" Naruto leaned into her, nudging her with his shoulder. "Pleeeease?"
"Oh, you mooch!" The girl laughed, wondering if he had changed at all since the past two and a half years. "Fine, but just this once because you beat me. But next time I won't let you win so easily." Winking she ran to the ramen stand. "Like this! Race ya!" High-tailing it to Ichiraku, she got a bit of a head start, laughing and waving at the boy behind her.
"Sakura-chan! Wait!!!" Naruto took off after her, thinking about letting her win, but then again, the sooner he got there, the sooner he could have a warm bowl of ramen. With that idea in mind, he sped up with a grin.
