Setting: Orochimaru's base (one of them, anyway. Give them names or numbers or something, Orochimaru. It's confusing. >>)

Summary: (Backstory thread) Sasuke rises early one morning and seeks some solitude, but doesn't get his wish for long.
After sliding his katana into his belt--Sasuke never went anywhere without it these days, whatever his destination, so long as he was anywhere near Orochimaru or on his property--he moved to his bedroom door and opened it. Movements quick but silent, he slipped through it and into the hall, closed it behind him, and set off, blinking in the low torchlight as his eyes adjusted. His shoulders were still aching slightly from his latest bout of training and also objected to his early rising, but he ignored them and kept moving.
He saw no one as he went and heard little, as most doors were still shut at this hour, and his journey was still uninterrupted when he arrived at one of the base's side entrances. Without pause he went through it and stepped up and out into the late morning darkness. Another silence greeted him, but one less heavy. It was a tolerable silence, at least, neither stuffy nor closed. There was life in this absence of sound, the sort of life that the compound lacked with its quiet hallways and empty rooms and murmuring walls. Coupled with the cool, open air and the sense of actually being alone rather than simply unaccompanied, it was comfortable outside in every way that the lair was not.
Concrete walls rose up on either side of the staircase that carried Sasuke above ground; after glancing around and listening for another's presence, he determined that he was very much alone at the moment and slowed as he reached the top. Jumping lightly onto one of the walls, he sat down with his back to the door, legs hanging over the side and facing the surrounding landscape.
He wouldn't stay too long; just until he felt his presence would be needed back inside, and even then he would wait a while before heading in.
