Someone slap some sense into me before I buy these heels. I tried them on at Anthropologie today, thinking that they were so absurdly expensive that there's no way I'd be tempted. Well, as it turns out...they're on sale. (Though still more than what I've *ever* paid for shoes--granted, my usually limit is $150, and anything in the triple digits ( Read more... )

Damn. I just might. I have several Anthro returns to process...so if I ignore half the math, I might be able to convince myself that these are actually $45--the difference that I'd be paying.

Full disclosure: I'm a notoriously terrible enabler, and a sucker for Mary Janes (and Anthropologie, now that you mention it). But come on - the idea of $200 on your feet may be disturbing, but the feeling of it - what could be better?!

To make matters worse, I suspect that there actually is a reason for the price difference. Most of my less expensive heels (retails $80-$180ish, though I almost always buy them on sale) are also far less comfortable. The leather on this one is much softer, and the padding inserted into all the right places. It's lined in leather as well, which "breathes" better than the man-made lining of most shoes.

Blah. I'm enabling myself.

I love Mary Janes. What could be more perfect for a schoolteacher? :P

Indeed. My mother generally doesn't approve of my taste in shoes, and once, when I excitedly showed her these sweet, cute little Victorian-inspired lace-up ankle boots (somewhere in this neighborhood, but with laces and a subtle little cut-out pattern), she screeched, "you'll look like a schoolmarm!" to which I could only retort, "...I am!"

Your choice is clear. Buy them.

You asked the wrong group of people to talk you out of buying pretty shoes!

And you are evil because now I want these: http://www.chiemihara.com/chiestore/default.asp?pagina=2&tipo=2&IdCSZapato=391&lim=3 ... well, the purple ones (http://www.chiemihara.com/chiestore/default.asp?pagina=2&tipo=2&IdCSZapato=484&lim=1) that are cheaper but sold out. The green ones are even my size. I do not have anywhere near $400 unless I cash out the bonds I was given as a baby and was going to give to my parents to finish paying for my computer!

I actually feel like I'm a negligent person for not having more pretty shoes. This is perhaps the wrong attitude to have, but there it is!

Same here, actually. I have *tons* of boots--all black or dark brown leather. (I used to live in the midwest, where I'd live in them 7 months out of the year). But aside from my ballet flats and the oxfords (which still need to be stretched), I don't have viable summer/spring shoes.

Hang on to those bonds!! :) and computer (and books) come before pretty shoes! But man, those WOULD look good with your outfits.

I find anthropologie to be really useful for finding new designers (especially for shoes), but purchasing them elsewhere. While anthro sometimes have good sales...normally, they're cheapest from other sources.

Haha, no, according to my parents, the bonds should have fully matured and I can cash them in (or whatever it is you do with bonds) at any time. But they will probably go toward paying for the computer. Also, I certainly can't justify buying pretty shoes if I can't justify going down to Irvine to see Graham Hammill! :(

Luckily, $400 is ridiculous enough to dissuade me! But I can still enable you ;)

Have you looked into Southwest's flights? I was able to buy them for around $59 each way, as long as I avoided the weekends. I'd skip the cab from the airport and walk--it's usually 2 or 3 miles, but not bad if you pack light.

That's a really good point. I actually do have a closet full of cheap(ish) heels, most of which I never wear because they're too uncomfortable. I bet if I can cash them in for how much I've spent, it probably adds up to at least a few pairs of nice, comfortable shoes that I'd actually reach for.

I love Frye shoes, btw. I've never talked myself into buying a pair, but I'm always tempted when I try them on. Which pair of boots is this?

Here's a link to the boots: again, totally worth it. For the style, and for the fabulous comfort. I can walk miles in them, and look rad ( ... )

oh my...those do look amazing. And that finish will "weather" very well. I love shinny polished boots, but only while they remain impeccably shinny and polished. Way too much upkeep.

Well, the money is clothing-buying quota until June :P, which I didn't expect to blow on a single pair of shoes. But in this case, it may be worth it. It's been several days already, and I'm *still* thinking about those damned shoes. Definitely leaning towards it.
