*grumble grumble grumble*

I'm struggling to write an De Quincey abstract for a meeting with Ian in...oh, four hours, and all I can think about is pumpkin pudding. If I had gone into baking, would I spend most of my working hours dreaming of romantic-era novels?

If I get this done, I'm making pumpkin pudding for dinner.

you : baking :: me : sewing. I've often wondered if I would be eager to get home so I could read literary theory and criticism had I chosen to be a seamstress :)

I think this is why "side passions" are so essential to our discipline. I can't face my work straight-on, I think. I always need something--a bit of a distraction, some background noise--on the side to obsess about, otherwise the work becomes paralyzing.

I definitely agree. Sometimes I think I don't have enough time to do the things that interest me, but this kind of thinking is absolutely foolish. When I'm not doing something else that interests me, I use my free time to sit around refreshing Facebook or somesuch nonsense, and at the end of the day I end up feeling like a depressed slug. Sewing makes me feel like I've accomplished something.

I'm super curious about that recipe--let me know how it turns out!

It actually turned out pretty well! I used yogurt rather than milk & cream (I didn't have either). I also added a ton of other spices (mostly ginger and ground cardamon) and cut the entire recipe in half. The yogurt--TJ's whole milk Greek variety--held together during cooking. There's a bit of a "sour" note--from the yogurt, I imagine--but I rather like it. If you want to avoid that, I'm pretty sure that half-and-half in lieu both the cream and milk will work. It basically tastes like a less sweet version of pumpkin pie filling.

I also skipped the sour cream (again, I don't keep it on hand) and piled on Greek yogurt, with chocolate shavings.

Thanks--those sound like great tweaks! (And I'm not a fan of sour cream, so I'll be glad to substitute yogurt.)

Mmmm... I like to replace the usual spices in this for saffron & vanilla. :)

ha! You can never go wrong with safforn & vanilla...but alas, I'm out of both.

You're just jealous because I'm not baking for you :P
