Civil Union VS. Marriage

I had a heated conversation with a co-worker about this. He asked me how it does not bother me that the word marriage would be used.
"It is a religious word" , he said "with Religious meaning about a holy union between a man and a woman"

i've said it before, and i'll say it again. the only way to make everyone happy is to dissolve the legal term 'marriage' for everyone. any couple can then get a civil union under the law, and anyone can call themselves 'married' if they want to, have a religious or secular ceremony, etc. in reality, this doesn't make a slew of people happy, but at least it's fair and sits perfectly within the framework of our constitution.

i'm disappointed in the vote also, but i'm *constantly* in the minority, so most votes don't go my way. bob barr isn't our new president, california will borrow billions more when its already bankrupt, etc. it's called tyranny of the majority.
