This is not exactly a speed-written exercise, but as a ficlet it is somewhat rougher and more pointless than my usual stories. Anyway, it's about my Glorfindel in Third (or Second?) Age Rivendell, and it will make the most sense to people who have read SF8.

It must have been a little embarrassing for Glorfindel to find his drawings of Ecthelion in someone's library, especially tacky Erestor. (I think I knew of some people in the 70s who decorated their homes in the "Late Nargothrond" style.) I assume he really did go through with his plan of burying the scrolls in the garden to make them appear aged and plant them in the Healer's Library.

Does Ecthelion ever find out about this?

They're not actually drawings of E. They're instructional drawings of anonymous Elves. Making them drawings of E in Gondolin would have been a little misguided I think.

I am relieved for Ecthelion, then.

Poor Erestor! If he manages to endure hours and hours of Ecthelion-related blathering, that would be proof of True Love.

I don't think 'Late Nargothrond' style must be tacky. Romans did that kind of illusional fresco painting all the time, and it wasn't tacky. Seventies however... *shudders*

Erestor's stamp collection is impressive. 'Hair styles for miners', hehe!

Also, I love the functionally illiterate Mirkwood elves. ECTHELION!!!

I didn't intend the style to be tacky. I mean, I think it would make a lot of sense inside a cave, especially in the deeper rooms. It might be a bit pretentious to use it in Rivendell, though.

As for Erestor and True Love, I don't think he'll be inviting G around all that much from now on. But hopefully he can survive at least one evening--and surely this is better for his ego than being told that G is not into short people with kohl-lined eyes, alabaster skin, and many piercings?

It figures that those scrolls Glorfindel forged would turn up in interesting circumstances sooner or later.

But poor Erestor... I can't help but feel bad for him.

In his own best interest, he should put the scroll into the public library for other elves to find it.

Or at least make a copy and put it there...

Why? Glorfindel wasn't mean about rejecting him or anything.

As I realized that I never commented on this story, this comment space seems like as good a place as any to say something I have been meaning to say for some days, and not about this tale alone ( ... )

I am not sure what to say, because I am totally overwhelmed by this comment ( ... )

He and Ecthelion will reunite, of course, and it'll be amusingly awkward at first, but not ambivalent in any lasting way.

That is very comforting to know.

Also: I forgot to mention that is wonderful to be back in touch with you, as well! You combine many of the qualities my Elves would value highly.
