Speedwriting #2

This was harder. Still, almost 500 words in an hour is nothing to sneeze at by my standards. Since this scene is pretty much done now, I shall post it.

It's really kind of liberating to just write this and throw it out there. Is it confusing? Too blatant? I don't care! And I have no idea what will happen next! Whee!

Platonic friendship is a beautiful thing. )

No, it's not confusing, nor too blatant. And I honestly can't tell that it was speed-written, so it's certainly not in need of much polishing!

I am not sure that 500 words/hour counts as speedwriting, but it's plenty speedy for me. Anyway, thanks.

I think these Elves are going to be far more into expressing their feelings than G & E.

Not confusing. There's a sense of mystery about whether or not Mablung has a thing for Beleg. Beleg comes across as very open, idealistic and kind, which is my take on him also. He seems quite young here as well. Is it too blatant? That Beleg has a thing for Turin? Not at all! It's exciting and intriguing because Beleg obviously could have done a lot better than Turin, so why didn't he? Well, as the song says, I guess there's no accounting for love. Or who you fall in love with.

For the purposes of this fic... well, partly because he *is* such a generous person, very willing to ignore others' faults. Which is canonical. And, less canonically, because he's kind of gay and, in my fic universe, there is no socially acceptable public outlet for gayness. (Well, there's the youthful messing around, but that's supposed to be practice/a substitute for heterosexuality, and expected to end with the onset of adulthood, leaving friendship in its wake.)

Arrgh!! I didn't read this fic's entries in order initially because I thought it was a one-off. Now that I have gotten completely into it by reading the other entries, I understand that the "boys" are teenagers. So yes, now I understand the curiosity thing, even though I try not to *wince* envision my own 18-year-old son doing anything like this. Best not to know. I like the idea that gayness is socially acceptable among the Elves as a way to get around the binding thing that they would do to acquire an heir, but do the slash thing for pleasure. (Theirs and mine, I might add.)

I really enjoy the secret love take on slash, so I make it either forbidden or socially awkward, depending on the culture I am writing about.

(And the experimental teenage gayness of my Sindar is supposed to be a cultural thing, something a little like the ancient Greek custom only with a different dynamic and a cut-off age. And, of course, a huge problem for anyone gay for life.)
