i am buzzed and in the process of writing an Anthropology paper. the paper is entitled "Getting Out of Dodge" and its about how moving out of your parent's house is a rite of passage. I really wish i could title it "Getting the Fuck Out of Dodge" but that is pushing it. I already have to hope the teacher doesn't see through the bullshit that is ( Read more... )

Well, when I moved out of my parents house, I was 19. & I not only moved out but I moved over 1300 miles away & haven't been back since (except to visit on vacation). I moved with my b/f of two years (on & off). His mother & her b/f also moved down as well. How it went was they moved down, then very spontaneously I decided to move down because I didn't want to be without him.. so I moved down a month later. It was shortly planned & I used every cent I had.

It was a very liberating experience to move across the country all on my own, paying for everything on my own, never asking for help from anyone. I've always been quite independant & that just sealed the deal. =]

when i first moved out it wasn't very clean. by that i mean, i went away to college & came home for every break. they paid for my school, & i had a work study job but made almost nothing so they were really still supporting me & everything i did. upon graduating i had to move back home because i couldn't afford anything else. after living with my parents for 3 months it seems i am just fed up enough to be depressed but not angry. this happened every summer during college, & i must admit i am happy that cycle is over. i am not a big fan of the 40 hour a week gig, but i am happy to be more independent. i feel more human. i feel stronger. i feel more free to be whoever i am...more free to find out who that is without being trapped in some box my parents & childhood friends put me in when i was like 4 years old. we are not static creatures! we grow, & we change, & that is a good thing. i feel like it can be impossible to really do that while you remain at home. maybe some people can do it, but i know i can't. i know in literature the ( ... )
