I think it's weird when people say, "You're awesome because you listen to [insert band of choice here]."

Why does listening to a band make someone awesome?

How come I never hear people say, "You're awesome because your not a typical piece of shit!"

That makes more sense to me.

People want the easy reasons to get a long or admire a person.
Nobody wants to be uncomfortable letting someone know them as a person.

Everyone wants to be absolutely summed up by a 25 question myspace bulliten.
It's just easier.
