So, Sunday heralded the day that I returned to Yorkshire for the first time since I graduated last July. Edward was to be my host for my brief visit; we started reliving my wasted youth with a fine Indian at the Bay of Bengal. We followed this with by a drink at the York Arms with Ed’s friend Jon (essentially the ‘Brilliant’ guy from the Fast Show

I never watched "The Fast Show". This is not the first time that I have heard it mentioned in a joke that I could not understand. I must look it up to see how Jon resembles this character.

Not good news about the stabbing in Liverpool station. Fortunate that the rest of the trip was more cake-centred.

Jon is quite a perky optimist type. If you play pool on his side, he always discusses how you might best play and says "unlucky" if you do a really dreadful shot. He has yet to fall down any holes though. It would be quite amusing if he made this into a habit.

I must say I envy your re-visit to the glorious city of York. I spent many an evening in Evil Eye squashed into a corner somewhere drinking Persian Carpet Rides while searching for that elusive pocket of oxygen that hovered somewhere unreachable by most human lungs. Those were the days.
