First broomball game: 1-1 tie
We had the first goal early, and they scored with 13 seconds left. It was a very epic game, filled with people falling over and swinging sticks at things and missing. Also, lots of unnecessary shouting and name-calling and strategy that doesn't actually mean anything.
I can understand why people would be hesitant to give an anime show like cowboy bebop a try. When I think of anime, i think of poorly-drawn children with giant-sized eyes and magic powers, horrible dialogue, and lots of annoying characters with obnoxiously spiky hair.
Cowboy Bebop is not a show like that. The characters here are average people in a mostly ordinary world. The writing is subtle and crafty, and dispite the poor quality of animation, the director manages to have a very artistic eye. The soundtrack is amazing, ranging from jazz to opera to funk to harmonica blues. The dialogue is understated and realistic. The characters have real depth and distinct personalities. Storylines are interesting and varied. In short, it's good show that is unfortunately stuck in a mediocrely drawn anime.
So before you assume that it's not worth your time, just give it a try. I wasn't especially eager to try it either the first time I saw it, but there is nothing to compare it to. I'll glady watch it with anyone who wants to give it a try.
In other news, I haven't driven a car in a really long time and it feels good. I always felt hypocritcal driving cars around, since I consider protecting the environment to be one of my highest priorities, so it feels right to just be walking around and relying on mass transportation to get places. I do want a bike though. I don't particularly care what kind, so the older and cheaper the better.
Seriously though, how can people (Bush *coughcough*) keep trashing the environment? Our country has some serious moral and philosophical problems if people have no goals other than to make money. How about living in equilibrium with our surroundings? What ever happened to that? In all seriousness, if we lose the environment, we all die. All of us. How can it not be our highest priority? I'm thinking of becoming an enviro sci major, can you tell?
In related news, I want to take a kayaking trip out west this summer. Who wants in?
