Maybe they needed a waitress for a mom. and a carpenter for a dad. I worked my ass off for everything i have today. And i have a lot. Thank GOD my mom was a college dropout waitress.

Hear, hear!

- Proud daughter of a waitress, two welders, and a truck driver. Oh, and a Pizza Hut manager (lots of divorce in my immediate family); none of whom ever went to college, all of whom barely graduate h.s.; AND all of whom are the best parents a kid could ask for!

Best wishes and a big *hug* to your mom. I hope she holds up ok!

I've hitched a ride a few times with my stepdad and it's been fun. I haven't done it since h.s., but he used to let me blow the horn at kids pumping their arms in cars next to us :)

So this is why you flip out about tipping issues. I knew there must be more to it.

I learned the same thing from my mom. Not only did she raise 3 kids on a secretaries wages, but she also did volunteer work on the side.
