I live on a boat. Someone outed me once...as a boater. Hah. kills me every time I think about it. My dad is considered "homeless" by the state because he lives on a boat. That always kills Peter to hear that. I wonder if it was a houseboat, would it still be considered homeless? Because it's a sailboat. 37 feet (or around there). It was crafted in ( Read more... )

Are you pulling my chain on this one?
I will admit it is cool, except I could never.
Damned phobias.

Nah, not pulling anything on this one. 100% unfiltered truth. Is it claustrophobia? How about on big boats? Or is it just a boat thing...

It has nothing to do with the boat, boats are a lot of fun, it is just that I would inevitably remember that I am floating over deep, open water. I have kind of developed a phobia to it. At least natural bodies of water. Pools are honky dory.

Ahh ok. I see. That makes sense. Large bodies of water can be pretty nervewrecking. Especially if you're sailing on one and thinking about it. The thought can be pretty...looming.

I was thinking about it, and in a technical sense, wouldn't where your ship makes berth be considered your home? At least, shouldn't it be? Unless you guys just kind float wherever. Also, if you live on a boat, how are you on the internet? I am so confused.

We are at a berth...we don't just sail around and park in the middle of the ocean or anything! Because that would be weird... Besides, our engine doesn't work, so we can't go anywhere right now anyway. So, I would think it would be considered a residence...but who knows. Those things are so technical. It's amazing. If you're stationed in a berth at a marina or whatever then you can have internet, cable, phone usage, run your washer and dryer (if your boat is big enough to have one) and all that good stuff. Because you can always put satellite dishes on your mast, and they have power boxes on the dock and all that. I'm sure none of it would work if you were out at sea though.

And yes, it is peaceful :D (Most of the time!)
