The train was stopped for 20 minutes or so in a tunnel just before civic center.  The conductor said there was a "medical emergency."  When I got to her house, Mary Alice, a civil engineer who works with my father told me thats what they call it when someone throws themselves on the tracks.  Yesterday we were stopped underwater for a "medical  ( Read more... )

Aha. I was stuck for 20 minutes this morning, too, for that "medical emergency," and I couldn't figure out what must've happened that it was taking so long, and figured somebody must have gone into labor and was having a baby on the platform. Boy was I wrong.

I believe they said the "medical emergency" was at Embarcadero; I was coming from Oakland and got stuck in the tunnel for a long time on an overcrowded train. Embarcadero is where most East Bay folks get off in the morning... not a terribly romantic place to die or give birth.
